In this book, the monks and Marc Goldberg, who pioneered the approach, offer a leap into the future using a game-changing tool: the remote electronic collar. The Art of Training Your Dog presents their compassionate and efficient system for the first time, with background and advice on choosing the right collar.Using a light touch—one that many humans can’t even feel—at just the right moment, helps to focus a dog’s attention. The authors help you create effortless teaching moments that tie into your dog’s natural pack instincts and help strengthen the bond with your dog.In as little as just 6 weeks, most pups will master skills like great leash manners; obey commands such as "sit", "down", "stay", and "place"; stop troublesome behaviors; and play safely off-leash with consistent recall.Book The Art of Training Your Dog: How to Gently Teach Good Behavior Using an E-Collar Review :
This is a beautiful book that looks like it would be just as at home on a coffee table as a reference in the yard while training. It's straightforward and so clearly written. There is as much focus on the 'why' as the 'what' and 'how', which is important for these methods. Our almost two year old dog was trained by these methods by the authors and is a marvelous member of our family. Both our dog and we, I strongly believe, are happier because of this work. We were originally skeptical of the concept of the e-collar, but on the setting we use (4 out of 100) the stimulus is literally entirely and 100% imperceptible to us. Its part of a much larger technique that is totally grounded in positive reinforcement. Our dog is off leash and perfectly under control (even without the collar most often now) so often. I'm looking forward to many more years with her and give credit to much of that to Marc and the Brothers of New Skete. Though the book is subtitled "how to gently teach good behavior using an e-collar," it is a very useful book for any dog owner, with or without an e-collar.I could detail more, but why? Buy the book! Two hundred and seventy-five pages are mostly delegated to teaching both general dog training and specific e-collar training technique. The result is solid dog training made faster, with greater reliability, and with less stress or aversion, than ever before. If Larry Krohn's 75-page book is the basic manual that should come with every e-collar sold (and it should be), this is the full e-collar training program that every dog-owner can -- and probably should -- follow.
